5、aining about it.” 4 But, he promised, if I continued to leave a clean station and not complain, next week he would put me on the “make table,” where pizzas were put together before being put into the oven. A few days later, when I reported for my after-school shift, I saw my name penciled not in t

16、 any type of writing. When writing for class or tests, try to avoid jokes, or an overly personal tone. 3 If you're writing an essay about the Civil War, the tone will be much more serious. Be aware of the genre (類(lèi)型) in which you're writing and of the audience you're writing for, and use a tone t

17、hat will communicate most effectively. Word choice One important rule of diction (措辭) is to use words that you know. 4 It might even distract them from the point of the sentence. To create a smooth rhythm in your writing, remember to vary the length of your sentences. 5 Long sentences p

18、rovide extended description or details. Your audience will also determine the words you use. When you're writing for your classmates, they'll probably share your vocabulary. You might need to choose different words when you're writing a letter to your grandparents. A. Know your audience B. Keep
