take after“與(父母)相像”,指由于血緣關(guān)系而(在外貌
5、、性格等方面) 相似,不能用于被動語態(tài)。
Tom takes after his father.湯姆像他父親。
Take after的同義短語為look like,多指外貌方面相似。
Tom looks like his father.湯姆長得像他父親。
2. I fix up bikes and give them away.我修理好自行車,然后捐贈出去。
(1)fix up相當于 repair,表示“修理,修補,整理”,其后跟物件名詞作賓語。
My watch sometimes gains and sometimes loses.

6、for me? 我的表有時快,有時慢,你能幫我修修嗎?
My mother is too old to live on her own, so we’re fixing up the spare room for her. 我母親年齡太大了,不能自己生活,所以我們正收拾這個多出的房間讓她住。
(2)give sth. away 意思是“捐贈,贈送”。
The rich man gave away most of his money to charity.
那個富人把他的大部分錢都捐給了慈善事業(yè)。
give away還可以表示“分發(fā)或贈與某物,由于大意而未利用
7、或抓住 (時機,機會等)”。
The headmaster gave away the prizes at the school sports day.
校長在學(xué)校運動會上頒發(fā)了獎品。
give away還可以表示“有意或無意地泄露某事情或出賣某人”。
The woman gave away state secrets to the enemy.

3.短語動詞的用法
一些動詞與介詞或副詞等連用在一起可構(gòu)成固定短語,其作用相當于一個實義動詞,這就是短語動詞。
短語動詞的特點是動詞與副詞或介
8、詞已成為一體,而且另有一個或多個意義。
如:send for=ask sb. to come(去叫某人來),
call on= visit(拜訪)/ask sb. to do sth.(號召)等。
一般情況下,短語動詞在結(jié)構(gòu)上主要有四種:動詞+介詞;
動詞+副詞;動詞+名詞+介詞;動詞+副詞+介詞。
(一)動詞+介詞
此類結(jié)構(gòu)相當于一個及物動詞,其后面要接賓語,賓語必須放在 介詞的后面。如:
I called on my uncle yesterday.昨天我去拜訪我的叔叔了。
Tom is looking for his dog
9、. 湯姆正在尋找他的狗。
(二)動詞+副詞
在此類短語動詞中,有的短語動詞作不及物動詞,有的作及物動詞,如果作及物動詞,副詞可以和后面的賓語進行位置上的互換,但如果賓語是代詞時,則只能用在動詞和副詞之間。如:
Look out! Mind your head. 小心!當心你的頭。
He puts on his coat. = He puts his coat on .他穿上他的外套。
(三)動詞+名詞+介詞
此類短語動詞用作及物動詞,短語動詞中的名詞前可以有形容詞修飾。如:
She takes pride in her work.她為自己的工作感到驕傲。
The nurse
10、 takes good care of these babies.護士細心地照料這些嬰兒。
(四)動詞+副詞+介詞
此類短語動詞也用作及物動詞,此類結(jié)構(gòu)要求賓語放在介詞的后面。
He is trying to catch up with us .他極力想趕上我們。
