Step 2: Language points 1. expression: noun [C]: a word or group of words used in a particular situation or by particular people: 他用了許多不同尋常的表達。 He uses a lot of unusual expressions. (n.)<1> [C or U] when you say what you think or show how you feel using words or actions: 他給她寫了一首詩作為他的愛的表達He wrote her a poem as an expression of his love. She plays the violin with great expression (= feeling). <2> [C] the look on someones face, showing what they feel or think: 我從她的表情可以判斷發(fā)生了嚴重的事情。 I could tell from her expression that something serious had happened. express: verb [T] <1> to show a feeling, opinion or fact for your kindness. <2> express yourself to municate what you think or feel, by speaking or writing, or in some other way: 我恐怕我并不在清楚地表達我的想法。 Im afraid Im not expressing myself very clearly. 2. separate adjective :existing or happening independently or in a different physical space: 我盡力把肉和冰箱里的其它食物分隔開來 I try to keep meat separate from other food in the fridge. (v.)<1> [I or T] to (cause to) divide into parts: 這個國家的北部和南部被一座山脈分隔開來。 The north and south of the country are separated by a mountain range. <2> [I or T] to make people move apart or into different places, or to move apart: 不知怎么地,在匆忙出大樓的時候,我和 母親失散了 Somehow, in the rush to get out of the building, I got separated from my mother. <3 > [T] to consider two people or things as different or not related 你不能把道德和政治分開。 You cant separate morality from politics. separately adverb 在幾天里偵探們分別接見了這些人。 Detectives interviewed the men separately over several days. separation noun <1> [U] when two or more people or things are separated: 在戰(zhàn)爭期間,許多夫婦不得不忍受長期的分離 During the war many couples had to endure long periods of separation (= not being together). waste: noun [S or U] <1> an unnecessary or wrong use of money, substances, time, energy, abilities, etc: 她失業(yè)兩年了,這是她的才能的浪費 Shes been unemployed for two years and its such a waste of her talents. <2> waste ground/land an area of ground in or near a city which is not built on, cultivated or used in any way: 他的尸體被拋在城市外面的荒地上 His body had been dumped in an area of waste land just outside the city. waste verb [T] to use too much of something or use something badly when there is a limited amount of it: 別把錢浪費在我身上。 Dont waste your money on me.
