1 The Anglo-Saxons (450-1100) Epics (A Long narrative poem presented in an elevated style, relating the heroic deeds of noble and semi divine personages) “Beowulf” the national epic the only surviving full-length epic in Old English, composed during the eighth century. The poem narrates the heroic deeds of Beowulf who kills the dragon Grendal and his mother, and later becomes the king of Geat. He dies in killing a dragon. Lyrics and Riddles The lyric presents a more personal and emotional form of poetry than the epic.
